If you’re like a lot of people out there, you start losing weight hand it can feel like everything has finally started going your way. You end up thinking that things will finally be better in your life, and you’ve probably already started reaming about the smaller clothes that you’re going to buy. Unfortunately, there comes a point where you’re not going to be able to see the weight loss numbers that you’re used to. It can be frustrating as all get out, but it actually doesn’t mean that it has to be the end of the world. You can indeed get the weight loss that you’ve always wanted, especially when you stop to think about the type of fitness and diet program that you’re on.
Let’s face it — sometimes we don’t follow our diets the way that we probably should. We get to a point where the diet starts failing, and that really frustrates us. We want that diet to work so much it’s not even funny, and the truth of the matter is that you need support at every turn to make sure that you remember the reasons why you decided to go on a diet in the first place. When it’s time to really step back and actually look at what’s not working in your diet, you might actually be surprised.

There are really three types of nutrients that you need to pay attention to — carbohydrates, proteins, and fats. There’s a balance that needs to take place in the body to make sure that everything flows smoothly — including your weight loss. If you aren’t getting enough fat, that matters. If you’re not getting enough proteins, then that’s going to show as well. However, if you’re eating too many carbohydrates, you could find yourself not losing the weight that you want to lose.
Does that mean that you have to deal with a weight loss stall? No, you don’t have to live with it at all. You can step up and get past it by actually taking a few different steps.
First and foremost, you will want to make sure that you’re not eating too many calories total for the amount of calories that you’re burning. Even though we humans like to make weight loss complicated, the truth is that weight loss is simply a matter of calories in versus calories out. If you don’t burn enough calories, then the excess calories will eventually be stored as fat. So you might find yourself where you aren’t burning enough to lose weight, but you’re burning just enough to keep the weight off. Some people call this maintenance when they finally reach their goal weight, but when you’re still working on how to get there it can be really frustrating to keep moving forward without a lot of results.
From there, you will want to make sure that you actually exercise. Sometimes adding a bit of high intensity exercise can really break a weight loss plateau for the better, especially if you haven’t been exercising. The body needs time to actually feel the burn of exercise, and it’s a great way to make sure that you’re burning the right amount of calories. You don’t have to become married to the gym — if you can actually just spend an hour a day working out, you might be surprised at how fast your weight loss picks back up.
Now, it’s important to stop and realizing what a weight loss plateau really is. If you’re still losing even a pound a week, that’s still weight loss. If you still haven’t lost weight for 3-4 weeks, that’s when you can honestly say that your weight loss has stalled.
Don’t discount the stress factor in your life as well. If you’re one of the people that actually have a hard time getting yourself calmed down after a hard day that stress affects your weight loss too. Your body releases hormones when you’re stressed, and those hormones signal the body to hold onto fat. It triggers a pure fight-or-flight response that can’t be ignored. Can you always control the stress in your life? Not always, but you can take steps to deal with stress in a much more healthy way.
As you might imagine, you will have to take action in order to get past a weight loss plateau. You might feel discouraged, and you shouldn’t ignore what you feel. If you need to take time to talk to someone in your weight loss group, don’t be afraid to do so — that’s what they’re there for, and you shouldn’t feel like it’s impossible to reach out to people just because you’ve got some weight that won’t go away.
Remember that time is the only way to lose the weight — if you combine time, exercise, and diet there’s no reason why you can’t get the body that you always wanted!
