Whenever there are a group of people who have been successful at something they all usually have a number of things in common. Dieting is no different. If a group of successful dieters were to be examined they would have certain habits in common that allowed them to all be successful. Fruits and vegetables form the basis of most of their meals and successful dieters always have them peeled, cleaned, cut up, and ready for when they want a snack avoiding having to search for something and finding a snack that isn’t healthy.
2. Fat Free Dairy. Studies have shown that calcium can aid the body in burning off its excess fat. Experts recommend at least two servings of dairy a day to meet the calcium requirements for good fat loss. Substituting fat free dairy for its whole fat counterpart removes a significant amount of fat from the diet while still providing all of the nutrients.
3. Whole Grains. Successful dieters eliminate all simple carbohydrates like sugar and white flour from their diets and replace them with complex carbohydrates like whole grains. Whole grains are also a good source of protein and fiber.
4. Measure Everything. Portion sizes are extremely important when you are dieting. Read every label and determine the proper serving sizes. When making things from scratch make sure that everything is measured so that you know exactly what when into it and what you are consuming. When you start your diet go out and buy yourself a new set of measuring cups and spoons and and a kitchen scale.
5. Protein. Protein should be included at every meal that you eat. Successful dieters know that protein makes them feel full faster and it speeds up their metabolism. Your protein should be of the highest quality as it will help to avoid any muscle loss while you are dieting.
6. Know what to cut out. To be successful at dieting you have to learn what things you will need to eliminate from your diet in order to lose weight. You should lower your fat intake and completely eliminate all sugar and alcohol. You may also want to cut down on your salt intake as salt leads to water retention.
7. Take a Multivitamin. Ideally you should be getting all of the vitamins and minerals that you need from the food you are consuming but that is not always possible. A good multivitamin will act as an insurance policy to make sure all of your needs are met.
8. Drink Water. Water keeps you hydrated, can help you to feel full so that you eat less, and helps your body to flush away all of the toxins caused by your weight loss. Successful dieters are never far from their water bottle and consume it all day long.
